STATEMENT FROM

THE UFDF

[No 34/2013]

[Nov 28, 2013]

The UFDF calls on the Attorney General, the  PM & Military Commander to explain to the people how Brig Gen Driti who was part of the 2006 Bainimarama team that overthrew a constitutional government and is supposedly covered under  the ‘entrenched’  immunity provisions of  the 2013 constitution has somehow been ‘excluded’ and put on trial?

The UFDF calls on the Attorney General, the  PM & Military Commander to explain to the people how Brig Gen Driti who was part of the 2006 Bainimarama team that overthrew a constitutional government and is supposedly covered under  the ‘entrenched’  immunity provisions of  the 2013 constitution has somehow been ‘excluded’ and put on trial?

The UFDF says if a special decree was passed by cabinet under section 161 of the 2013 constitution that excluded Brig Gen Driti from the protection he is supposed to have enjoyed as a member of the 2006 Bainimarama team, why has that decree not been made public?.

The UFDF says it is ironic that Brig Gen Driti is being found guilty of inciting mutiny against an Army Commander who overthrew a constitutional government?

The UFDF asks how was it possible to have a trial where some of the key characters involved in the alleged crime did not even make a court appearance.

If Driti can be charged and brought to court while supposedly being protected under the immunity provisions, the UFDF asks if this means all those who have aided and abetted the regime who think they are protected from prosecution, can also be removed from immunity protection and prosecuted?

  1. I am of the view that all that Driti did was tried to inquire into Khayum’s private dealings, that’s all! Muro levu tiko na kwa ma rogoce tiko o Azziz ka veisaqasaqa kei na nodrau vakabauta vakalotu vata. Everything else was just words of mouth and thus legally means nothing. Every documents presented in a court of law must be supported by “black and white” evidence – not something that is hanging up in the air and not able to be touched nor reached. Kalougata tiko na veiqaravi ka meda masulaka vakalevu na noda vanua kei na elections ’14.

  2. Why didn’t Driti and his lawyer get Aziz to court where he would have been grilled.

Was it because he was confident he would have won the case or was it an issue that it would be more clearer that Driti was the real culprit.

I am therefore suprised that Driti blamed aziz yet did not do anything else.

  3. United front trying to get political mileage from a man who did the coup.

Does this mean that they agree that the new constitution is the supreme law of the country.

Mick, pls get a life and be honest if the other political parties endorsed the PR.

  4. Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has had his immunity removed and himself removed from Parliament and his now facing possible other charges that are likely to see him end up in jail.
All good things come to an end
the end has finally come for Berlusconi
all his Machiavellian schemes to circumvent the law has come to nought
the law has caught up with him
    even if belatedly.
the lesson : immunity today can become no immunity tomorrow!

  5. So the UFDF is now supporting the people who did the coup in the first place. Alas, its expected as FLP supported it in the first place.

  6. @ PDP

You seem to have a lot of personal venom for Mick, and not much else to say – how does any of this indicate support for the regime?? The statement just points out the lies and hypocrisy of a gang of thrives who make up the rules as they go.

Are you worried the rules will apply to you too?

  7. The Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has said that Fiji is on the cusp of greatness and could rival or surpass Singapore with higher standards of personal and corporate behaviour.

He said this was the exciting prospect in store for the nation as the economy grows, the Bainimarama Government’s various reforms take root and overall standards are raised.

The AG was speaking to a gathering of senior officials of the various State-Owned Enterprises attending a three-day course in Suva conducted by the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

They are being instructed on their obligations under the revised 2013 Fiji Companies Decree, which requires board members of Public Enterprises to meet higher standards of compliance in carrying out their fiduciary duties.

The AG expressed the Government’s thanks to the visiting team from the Australian Institute of Company Directors for the experience and skills they were bringing to Fiji.

“I’m grateful that the AICD has presented this course to us and we hope to do more in the future,” he concluded

Answer: Because the clowns have hit town…..they have been running the show from 2006. Its all a circus where animal farm order applies and drama of no loyalty among thieves unfold!
