FTUC may form own political party

The President of the Fiji Trades Union Congress, Daniel Urai said the representatives of all the unions affiliated with FTUC have decided that their support for the Fiji Labour Party should stop.
Urai said the Congress which is made up of union representatives made the decision a while ago and they are now looking at the next step.
He said FTUC is also considering forming a political party.
Urai said FTUC which formed the FLP believes a party needs to be in place that looks after workers’ rights and interests.
In an earlier statement, the Fiji Labour Party said there were no proposals, motions or submissions received from FTUC’s Felix Anthony or Daniel Urai on the plight of the workers for the party’s Annual Delegates Conference.
The FLP said it is sheer hypocrisy for Anthony and Urai to accuse the FLP of not representing workers’ interests when the finger is clearly pointing at them.
The Labour Party statement goes on to say that Anthony and Urai need to be told that merely attending overseas conferences every other month does not constitute representing workers’ rights.
Urai said the FLP can say whatever it wants but they have made their stand on the Labour Party and will leave it at that.

  4. If FLP is dependent and so certain of support from a particular ethnic group support, why not remove the term “Labour” and simply substitute it with “Indian”? What’s wrong with that?

    It’s time for a new direction and formation of a genuine labour party that respects and abides by labour principles, values and ethics. I voted for this particular labour party once in the past because they deserved it, but will not do so again.

  6. FTUC-political party, one question to both Felix Anthoney and Denial Urai. Felix Anthoney are you an Indian or European and Denial Urai what is your origin? or are both of you kawaca,s?

  7. Felix / Denial your members call mr chaudhry everyday to assure their support to the party. This move will really fark you two up and come AGM then the real game of Sarka Kuto will begin for you two.

The labour party was like a family party to the chaudarys and they had been calling the shorts all this time, why shouldnt they start their own party,its their right to do just that and surely majority of the indian population have opened their eyes now.Those thousands from India should be questioned by all the Indians in Fiji

    It now seems the Fiji Labour Party isn’t the only one that’s facing some internal problems.

    Fiji’s oldest party The National Federation Party announced some weeks ago that it would make a constitution submission in consultation with the SDL, FLP and the UPP.

    Now they’re saying they don’t have any partnership with any political party.

    This, despite a joint submission to the Pacific Islands Forum a few days ago where all four parties called for consultations on the possibility of retaining communal seats.

    Former Minister in the Bavadra government and long serving NFP member Ahmad Bhamji says word of NFP having relations with rival political parties have angered their supporters in the northern division.

    Speaking from New Zealand Bhamji says senior members and even the working group of the NFP should have been consulted before deciding to make a joint submission with rival political parties to the pacific island forum leaders meeting a few days ago.
    “This is one time the issue of such an importance and bearing on the country and the party, my personal view is that he should have contacted the people around him and definitely the working committee before he should have gone ahead.”
    However Party Leader Raman Pratap Singh maintains the working committee was consulted on the issue.
    “The leadership has to make decision, but a major issue like this working with other political parties, we did seek the mandate and it was given to us.”
    Bhamji has downplayed the obvious Disagreement claiming there is no rift in NFP adding supporters still believe NFP is independent and should survive on its own

  12. This is good. I feel that Felix and Danial should form their own party if it represents the best interests of the FTUC. If it works more power to them and the FTUC. Otherwise I am sure they can work with another party. In any event it’s their call. The only problem is that Felix has not consulted member unions on this and now has a bit of work to do.

A real shame to hear esp. to genuine Labour Party supporters outside of your tiny pond. Pls do yourselves a favour toads, and call yourself an Indian Party instead of skirting around the obvious. You’re no better than that dumb&dumber SDL denying their own submission to the CC. At least to their credit, they’re upfront about their ID as an i-taukei party. Everyone can see where your ‘marriage of convenience’ is headed. Zilch integrity. Too much lasu. And not dissimilar to the proposed Bai/Kai party that will hijack any platform to save their own skins. You morons represent the oxygen that allows them to breathe…

  16. Good if they think forming another party why not.The question is who gone vote for who? All we need now to unite so we can get rid of the thieves .So we can take Fiji out from this fucking hole or mess.And then we make sure dat they go to jail .
