What I will not publish
Yesterday I was emailed a link to a DVD that is about to be released in Fiji.
The DVD explains the draft constitution in Fijian and Hindi clause by clause and overall is a well produced summery.
It warns of what effect the changes that the military want may have on our future.
The video accompanying it is generic scenes that help explain what the future of Fiji should be.
If only they had left it at that.
I find the imagery used to accompany sections of the explanation both offensive and inflammatory.
Mention of the position of military commander is accompanied with video of Hitler’s ranting Nuremburg Address.
Mention of human rights is accompanied with scenes of Nazis beating Jews and concentration camp victims.
Mention of amnesty is accompanied by a graphic firing squad scene.
The graphic Adult Only type content is sure to make it popular and passed around for the wrong reasons.
These images detract from a good sensible sane discussion of the constitution and our future.
They will only inflame the situation when cool calm heads are needed at this critical point.
No I will not publish the link and hope there is some further editing before it is released in Fiji.

ANGER AS TAXPAYERS FUND FIJI BID TO DROP UNION FLAG

THE military ruler of Fiji plans to remove the Union Flag from his country’s national flag – and British money is helping him do it.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama, who seized power in the former colony in a military coup in 2006, has announced that a new flag is being designed to signal a clean break.
It also emerged yesterday that the new fl ag is being introduced as part of a constitutional shakeup funded by the European Union and the Foreign Office.
There was anger last night that taxpayers’ cash was being squandered on a diplomatic snub.
William Dartmouth, foreign affairs spokesman for Ukip, said: “For this to happen under the order of a dictator, via a process designed by him and an assembly stuffed with cronies is wrong.
“That it is being funded in part by the Foreign Office and the EU just makes it worse.”

The current flag was adopted when Fiji gained independence in 1970. Fiji has received cash from a £1billion EU fund for encouraging democracy and human rights and has had backing from the Foreign Office.
But its slow progress to democracy led to suspension from the Commonwealth in 2009.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “The appearance of the Fijian flag is entirely a matter for the interim government of Fiji.”

I agree. we must as you say maintain a good sensible sane discussion even with all the insanity and profanity that surrounds us as we fight for the restoration of democracy in fiji.
