Suspicious activity leading into Fiji elections
Suspicions over the printing of extra voting papers, two weeks out from Fiji’s first election in eight years.
Organisers are facing accusations of corruption, after 700,000 ballot papers were printed for just over 590,000 registered voters.
Supervisor of elections Mohammed Saneem told Humm FM spare copies are printed, in case people make a mistake.
He says on final counting the presiding officer and elections team are required to reconcile the number of ballot papers against the number of signatures on the day.
Mohammed Saneem says it’s hard to predict how many papers each venue will need.
