Is Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum delaying the dangerous driving causing death case against his friend Praveen Bala?

28th August 2014,

The Honourable Minister of Justice

Fiji Islands

Att: Minister of Justice – Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Re: Puna Chand

In 2013 Praveen Bala killed my brother because of dangerous driving. There’s no magistrate

available to hear the case. This is the third time since December that no magistrate has been

found who can hear the case.

While you as the Minister of Justice busy shaking hands and smiling with Praveen Bala, can

you please take out time and provide justice to my innocent brother who has passed away

leaving behind three children.

Yours faithfully,

Ashnita Chandra

  1. Justice delayed is justice denied so the maxim reads.

This is a shame and a disgrace. This family needs closure. It is clear proof that there is no rule of law in Fiji and the Khaiyum and Gates manipulate the courts for their own purposes.

In the mean time a family suffers. I urge all right-minded Fijians to think, what if this was my loved one. This is a serious criminal matter. It is not a traffic offence.

The courts in Fiji are an embarrassment and a disgrace. Well done Mr Gates.

  2. Thats the kind of justice Fiji should expect from this regime, should they be voted back into power.

  3. Please Khaiyum, if you ever read this, please know that we despise what you have done and what you continue to do. A precious human life has been lost and a family is grieving. That family will have to live without their brother and the children without the love and care of their father. Is human life more valuable than a political seat in Parliament? Is justice of lesser importance to political power? What does being a Minister of Justice mean to you” What brand of justice do you stand for?

You have consciously acted to pervert the course of justice in Fiji for more than 7 years. Its time to stop and please do the right thing. Let Praveen’s case be heard so that his story can be heard. Let the family of the victim hear the full story and allow them the opportunity to see that justice is being done. Give us a reason to believe that you are still human and that you care about Ashnita’s family and the thousands of families of Fiji. Please do the right thing. Vinaka
