Groenewald said that the man’s family deserves to see justice for what happened to their son and he is determined to see this done.

Meanwhile the NGO Coalition on Human Rights Chair, Shamima Ali said every individual, no matter what the crime they have been charged with, is entitled to a fair trial and no one deserves to die in such a manner.

Ali urges the Fiji Police Force to act with transparency and accountability in its investigations into the allegations.

The One Fiji Party said it wishes to record its sadness at the news of the death of Vilikesa Soko whilst in the custody of the police.

Party General Secretary, Sitiveni Kalou said One Fiji notes that the Commissioner of Police has assured the nation that a thorough investigation will be carried out into the circumstances surrounding Soko’s death.

He welcomes this undertaking and looks forward to its timely conclusion and the public release of findings.

  1. Don’t get too exited about this investigation. The forces enjoy full support from the highest level and at the end of day our great leaders ruling will prevail and our South African PolCom would not be the first to be put on a plane quite quickly:

At the end of the day, I will stick by my men, by the police officers or anyone else that might be named in this investigation. We cannot discard them just because they’ve done their duty in looking after the security of this nation and making sure we sleep peacefully at night
