The Finance Ministry doesn’t anticipate the need for a mini-budget post the September elections. Permanent Secretary Filimoni Waqabaca says they will stick to the 2014 Budget. Waqabaca says if there’s any need for additional funds, it will be re-deployed from the 2014 budget.-“We stick to the plan that the government had laid out through the budget and there is no intention at all to go for a mini-budget and we remain firm the fact that we will operate within what we had announced and we will stay within the deficit that was announced by the PM and minister for finance during the budget announcement.”_Waqabaca says the Ministry has always sustained its operations … and the record level of tax collection has boosted their confidence.“We also believe that given the pick-up in economic performance and economic activities, we are confident that we will move towards the revenue target that we have announced of over $2b.”Waqabaca made the comments in an interview with FBC News –

  1. So, what’s wrong with the statement. Another stupid comment by NFP I suppose. He is the PSF, and that’s his view. The minister of finance can change if the Govt changes. However, as of now, he has all the right to say as he is the PSF.

  2. We understand the PS Finance’s view, given his involvement in a rogue regime but he must realise that all things will change even including his own position once a new government comes in. The position he now takes about the budget and government finances is highly questionable though because there has never been a thorough audit and reporting of public accounts so that due scrutiny of what he has been scheming behind the scene is known! We therefore should not take his words for gospel because all will have to be investigated and thoroughly reviewed before we can take him seriously. Setting budgets with continuity in mind in normal democratic government handovers is one thing but doing the same when taking over from an illegal bunch of thieves is another!

  3. Filimoni should find a new job after the election of a new Government. The wisest thing for him to do now is to shut up and prepare himself for the interviews and interrogations about the very abnormal decisions and actions by this illegal regime. One of the many questions he should answer is this : How much was Voreqe paid? Why was he and other criminals being paid by Nur Bano Ali? Why did he, Filimoni not resign from his position to demonstrate his integrity and principles? What does he really stand for?

  4. Good on you Mr Waqabaca . Economy has moved to new heights with you guidance . Leqataki ga ni ratou na Yamoca na dau Butako ni SODELPA likevQarase and Teimumu . Sa tiri toka qori Nodra Weli. .

  5. @Anon 9.25. You must be either blind, ignorant or a fool to say what you just said. Qarase was elected to Parliament by the people of Fiji. His Government was constantly under the public gaze and commentary and all decisions, expenditures and public accounts were subjected to the normal process of consultations, due diligence, authorisations etc. Each year the Government’s management of the nation’s finances was audited by the duly appointed body and officers of the Auditor General. Compare and contrast that to Voreqe. His increased his salary more than 400 times, was being paid by Nur Bano Ali, and never has he published or revealed the Auditor General’s Report. Never once in the 8 years of illegal rule. Now, here you are, branding Qarase as a thief? You need to understand what you are talking about before you open your silly mouth.
