Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase

Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase who is ineligible to contest the September elections said the people’s choice is paramount in this upcoming election.

Speaking to about 100 people in Qauia during the SODELPA campaign meeting, Qarase says people need to choose wisely either to choose what he calls dictatorship government or a democratic government.

Qarase is now actively campaigning for SODELPA and is appearing in a number of campaign meetings.

Meanwhile a question was raised by a member of the community whether SODELPA will continue with free education if it forms the next government.

Qarase replied that there is no such thing as free education in Fiji.

According to SODELPA, free education can never happen and it is not right to say that free education is provided.

Qarase questioned the members of the Qauia Community on who pays for the uniforms and lunch for the children.

He said free tuition fees are being provided, not free education.

The Former Prime Minister then said that people should thank the government for providing free bus fares, textbooks and tuition, but they do not believe that Fiji has free education.

  1. Bainimarma should stop intimating Indians not to vote for SODELPA/ FLP.
Bianimarma is telling everywhere to Indians that without him Indians are finished.

  2. The election result will be determined by the i taukei as they are 60%. The Indians are now 33%.
i taukei unity is at test. The i taukei will clearly decide the future of Fiji.

It’s all just a play on words and quite insignificant what it’s called. The fact is that costs that people had to pay before are now paid by the taxpayers. If you are not working and paying tax someone that is working is contributing to educating YOUR child.

As for the idiots whining about uniforms and lunch meals it was your choice to bring these brats into the world.

  4. Like Hamas n Israel , throw each other with bombs , Kai viti and Kai India …kana loto Kai viti , Kai India 2nd class , Ulukau kece ..or go vinaka na yalomu …what’s good of fiji , progress or dragging decaying logs of the pass..

  5. How the table have turned , now Kai viti can decide keep the others as 2 nd class and pay taxes for the kaiviti to get free lunch … The elite Kai viti want more ..doce the common Fijians are being manipulated ..by those in power ..can’t you see Qarase used his influence to get his personal bank balance intact. Fuck commoners

Is the peoples choice not paramount in any election?

Or is he admitting that choice was determined in his time by what the church and chiefs told the majority to do and now sees the errors in that system.

  7. The itaukei are not 60% but 51%. If the elections was held under the previous constitutions, sodelpa MAY have had a chance to win the election. I say may because, I am not really sure of what % of itaukei votes Sodelpa will receive this time.

The only way, sodelpa will win is if it gets all itaukei votes as they are only 51%. No indo fijian will vote for sodelpa as it is considered a racist party. NFP, PDP and FLP are only saying they will bring GCC because they want the itaukei votes.

As a result of the statements by sodelpa and now the othee political parties, indo fijian and “other races” will vote more for Fiji First. In addition given the large turnout of itaukei supporters at FF rallies, FF will get the majority votes.

    My prediction is as follows:

    FF: 66%
    Sodelpa: 25%
    NFP: 4%
    FLP: 3%
    PDP, others 2% total

  8. All FF will need is about a 30 % swing of iTaukei votes and I believe they will get approx 80% of INdian votes and this will be enough to vote them into power
If you look at campaign news coverages , you will see the FLP is bleeding with very little crowd at rallies in one campaign news video I quickly counted only 30 people
On the other hand you see FFP rallies drawing huge crowds and what is noticeable are excellent turn out of iTaukeis
In my opinion FFP could win around 40-45 seats which will mean little or no opposition in PArliament which will not be a good thing as a country needs strong opposition for good democracy to prevail
