Fresh Fiji push to probe regime breaches
Updated about 1 hour ago
The United Front for a Democratic Fiji has written to the new police commissioner in a bid to expedite an investigation into two alleged breaches by the regime leader.
Earlier this month, police said they could not comment on the probe which was opened in April after the UFDF reported Rear Admiral Frank Bainimarama to the police for campaigning without having his party registered.
Under the regime’s decrees such action can result in a ten-year jail term and could prevent the regime leader from standing in the election he promised for September.
Two weeks ago, a retired South African police and military officer, Bernadus Groenewald, was made the new Police Commissioner and the UFDF has now written to him asking him to expedite the probe.
This comes as the regime leader has applied to register his political party amid controversy over the false declaration of one of its members, which according to the regime decree on political parties could incur the proposed party a fine of more than 200 million US dollars.
Welcome to the circus Commissioner
UFDF sa bau vakaloloma Dina . Caka mada na cakacaka
Once again, really not holding my breath that this Commissioner will lift a finger on any of these political issues.
He’s either part of the clown act or a member of the deft acrobatics squad in the circus-ry that is Fiji.
All the new police commissioner will do is sniff the rear of the Admiral and if he is satisfied the case will be closed.
This will test you Commissioner, you can either win our commendation or head shaking in disappointment.
Am inclined to think that you will be professional and tacke the challenge as you had done before in your homeland. Best of luck Comm Of Police
