Election Nirmal Singh joins SODELPA
Afounder of the People’s Democratic Party Nirmal Singh has joined the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA).
Mr Singh has been seen campaigning with the party for the upcoming September general election. He joined the Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi and SODELPA leader Ro Teimumu Kepa as party officials toured the Western Division this week.
Mr Singh yesterday confirmed that he was now with SODELPA, but yet to confirm whether he was going to be a candidate.
He tendered his resignation from PDP on February 2, saying that it was based on certain fundamental disagreements with the party hierarchy on several issues.
Unionist Felix Anthony was elected PDP leader at the party convention last week.
However, Mr Singh said he strongly believed that those who put themselves forward to be elected had to serve the people of Fiji and not just one segment of the society, no matter who was instrumental in forming the party.
“We must represent the interest of all the people of our country,” he said. He stressed that he would continue to speak up on issues of importance for our country and strive towards the goal of encouraging a new generation of leaders to take political leadership of this country.
