The National Federation Party claims people will have little time to digest all the information on how to vote come the September elections.
Party Leader, Professor Biman Prasad says the NFP isn’t happy with the time frame in which voter education will be carried out.
“Voters would not have any idea until the 25th of August when they will get the numbers, when the candidates will be getting the numbers, drawn randomly. And we will basically have less than three weeks, political parties and indeed the Electoral Commission and all those involved in the voter education will have less than three weeks to tell the voters the candidate’s number for whom they want to vote.”
Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says there will be information kits available inside the polling booths.
“The Fiji Elections Office will operate on the premise that we will educate all voters to have the necessary information that would allow them to vote. We will provide inside the polling stations, candidates list which will have photos and names of the candidates that the voter wishes to vote for.”
Saneem maintains that every voter will be given time to cast their votes and there will be assistance at hand if needed.
