Fiji Sun Poll week six

Ro Teimumu PM’s strongest rival: Poll

But Bainimarama still way in front as preferred leader

NEMANI DELAIBATIKI

The closest challenger to Prime Minister Rear Admiral (Retired) Voreqe Bainimarama in the run-up to the September 17 general election is Ro Teimumu Kepa, the latest Fiji Sun poll reveals.
The sixth weekly poll for the week ending March 28 shows that 19 per cent of those who polled said the leader of Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) would give the stiffest challenge. However, 45 per cent said none would offer the strongest challenge. Eleven per cent were unsure.
Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry polled 12 per cent.
The results have a direct correlation with the outcome of polling on the Preferred Political Party and the Preferred Prime Minister.
In the Preferred Political Party results, PM’s proposed party polled 47 per cent, a drop from 51 per cent. The poll was taken before the PM unveiled his proposed party name and campaign bus last Sunday. It would be interesting to see what the next poll would show. Those who are unfamiliar with parties have increased from 38 per cent to 45 per cent. This group will decide the outcome of the election when it finally makes up its mind which party to vote for. SODELPA remained at five per cent while Labour dropped from four to two per cent.
Voters should expect more changes in the poll results as political parties intensify their campaign.
In the Preferred Prime Minister stakes, the PM has dropped from 80 to 76 per cent. But he still holds an unassailable lead at this point. Ro Teimumu sits at four per cent, five down from last week. Mr Chaudhry drops from four to two per cent.
