The AG skates around the theft of the shield on the Fiji flag…… Is it true that the Fiji Flag symbol has never been protected from misuse?

Proposed party not using Fiji coat of arms – AG

Publish date/time: 01/04/2014 [16:59]
It has been clearly established that the proposed Fiji First Party is not using the Fiji Coat of Arms.

The Fiji National Coat of Arms consists of the images of two Fijian warriors on either side of a shield and the motto “Rerevaka na Kalou ka Doka na Tui” below the shield.

The shield from the coat of arms has the image of a lion holding a cocoa pod across the top, sugarcane, a coconut palm and bunch of bananas are represented in three of the shield’s sections.

The fourth contains the reproduction of a dove of peace, the main feature of the Cakobau Government’s flag before cession.

The proposed party is using the shield displayed on the Fijian flag.

When questioned by Fijivillage, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said claims that the proposed Fiji First Party is using the Fiji Coat of Arms are misleading..

Sayed-Khaiyum said people who are making the claims may be just seeking publicity.

The United Front for a Democratic Fiji which is made up of SODELPA, NFP, Fiji Labour Party and the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions said it will not change its stand that the Prime Minister’s proposed Fiji First Party is using the Fiji Coat of Arms.

When questioned by Fijivillage, UFDF spokesperson Mick Beddoes admitted that only parts of the Coat of Arms have been used by the proposed Fiji First.

But he said the proposed political party’s intentions are clear.

  1. A central part of the coat of arms (in this case the shield) is as good as the whole coat of arms and to be used as a party symbol is misleading and inappropriate.

  2. looks like a duck, flys like a duck, quacks like a duck, must be a duck?

unless the duck is up your arse!! hello

  3. As the FIJI military returns to professionalism under new responsible leadership it is only a matter of time before they round up khaiyum and his treasonous clan and bring them to justice. Many in the military are becoming increasingly openly hostile against these treasonous criminals.

  4. We need a national debate every week on the economy, corruption etc. Professor Biman has offered the challenge. Chaudhry and Kepa , Qoro can join too. It will be very informative for the people of Fiji.
We wait to hear what all our politicans have to say then it will be easy for us to decide whom to vote.
Now FBC lead by Raiz Kahyium is only singing song for Bainimarma and Khayium.
FBC BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE OF FIJI SO WE HAVE A RIGHT TO HEAR ALL POLITICANS.

  5. i Taukei be careful of Bainimarma as Khayium is the mastermind behind his political party. Khayium wants to become Prime Minister.
Khayium has taken away GCC and made decrees regarding land which is not in favour of i Taukei. The Prime Minister has lot of powers regarding the land.

  6. The simple fact is that it is unethical if not illegal for Papa Pig to use the coat of arms as the symbol for his yet to be registered party.

How devious and unscrupulous can one be in the pursuit of power and status.

  7. Who is illegal A.G trying to fool. The use of 80% content of the coat of arm is illegal. In any fair court of law the current use of coat of arm will be considered illegal. This is norm of the illegal A.G.
Khayium thinks that whatever he does is legal.
This is common with Muslims who will do anything to be in power and fame.
Khayium has committed treason and one day he will have to spend with George Speight.

  8. The color and partial use of coat of arm is to misguide voters. This is illegal.
Khayium can do anything he wants and get away. He must be charged for treason. He is getting a pay of over $1.2 million which is processed by his aunty nur bano. All in the family.

  9. Bainimarma has not even formed his political party and steal’s the coat of arm with the removal of few things to justify that it is not the coat of arm.Anyone looking at it reminds of the coat of arm.Someone must be charged for abusing the use of coat of arm and even the color on the bus is that of the Fiji flag.
How long the abuse, corruption and misuse will continue by the illegal regime?

  10. Bainimarama stole the name. Fiji First was registered back in 2010. ASK de-registered the party in order to steal the name.

And you’re still going to let these guys run the election?

Boycott now, until we get a caretaker government and independent election commission and supervisor of election.

  11. Can he he charged with vandalizing national symbol, for he has distorted it for his own political propaganda

Anyway why does he need a bus to collect 5,000 signatures – oh, basically to call people into the bus, give them free chow and make them sign the papers – bingo!

    God help the moron

It is time we stopped blaming everything on Khaiyum – that is why native Fijians have not been able to confront the coupists – its native Fijians who are propping up the regime!

Lets be fair and not inverted racists

I salute Khaiyum – he has the balls to piss into our faces – what are 5,000 native Fijians doing – waiting for election

  12. well if that’s your supreme explanation ASK, let all the parties also include the coat of arms beside their logo. This ASK is as stupid as anything….. lying through all along

  13. iarse’s response to the complaint is flimsy. As usual he is trying to defend the indefensible. So pray tell us iarse where did you get the symbol from. Was it a new design from one of the many designing companies. Doesn’t look like it to me. Like many other things it was a stolen item.

  14. Even more perplexing is that the supposed Attorney General finds it fit to defend a certain political party while he’s quite happy to put up barriers for the rest.

All the signs now make very clear that the elections will be skewed in the regime’s favour and that the power now lies with We The People to change the script

We The People will not forget Australia and New Zealand either and their role of political expediency while propping up a Supervisor of Elections who wouldn’t know elections protocols from his nose.

  15. It is interesting to see how Vijay Narayan’s story finally ends up after a radio interview, But as the article says the AG believes our objections are misleading and we are just seeking some media attention? Really.

The TRUTH is Aiyaz and Vijay that the law says this:- Quote

Prohibition of use of Coat of Arms

2.—(1) No person shall, except with the written authority of the Minister, use for any purpose whatsoever the armorial ensign and supporters granted by Royal Warrant dated 4th July, 1908 which are the Coat of Arms of Fiji and no person shall use any design which in any way resembles such Coat of Arms in a manner likely to deceive. (Amended by 14 of 1975, s. 74)

With the picture of Franks bus, there is no question that this is an attempt to ‘deceive’ the people. because the law says quote ‘no person shall use any design which in any way resembles such Coat of Arms’.

The AG is attempting to brush off our objections and treat this matter lightly knowing full well it is no small matter.

The Minister responsible for our coat of Arms in the Prime Minister so if he has ‘authorized’ his own party to use the coat of arms in what ever form he may have authorized, then he has ‘abused’ his position as PM because he stands to personally benefit from allowing his party to use our coat of arms as his symbol in the elections. He has a clear conflict of interest.

The AG may try to brush it off, but it is the ‘conflict of interest’ that Qarase is alleged to have had in his position 19 years ago in a ‘personal’ share transfer, that the regime used to send him to jail for.In this case the conflict is with the property of the state and the abuse is clear for all to see.

So who is going to charge Frank? Will the people responsible for upholding the law take action and stop this? If they do nothing by Friday, I will lodge another complaint with the police.

I would like to add to Biman Prasad’s call to Frank to hold a debate and call on Aiyaz, Frank and anyone else from their team they would like to include to ‘face off’ with members of the UFDF and other opposition members in a series of nationally televised and broadcast debates every week in the lead up to the elections.

I also challenge FBC to invite members of the UFDF and other opposition members to feature in as many ‘talk back shows’ as they have given Frank and Aiyaz so far and when we are even, get both sides together in ‘LIVE’ not pre recorded talk back shows and the only condition I ask is no caller gets ‘cut off’. Communications Fiji should do likewise,

The Fiji Sun and Fiji Times should stop ‘hiding behind’ the skirts of Sharon Smith Jones. I call on her and her group to stop propping up the the Sun with all the adds they provide and pay for and the protection they give by ignoring the Sun’s abuses of the Media decree and stop harassing and threatening the Fiji Times to imprison their Editor and leave them free to give all sides equal space to air everyone’s views ‘unedited’

If the media can do this or if Aiyaz and Frank can muster the courage to step away from their multilayer protective shield and step into the middle of the public arena without using any of their ‘protective decrees’ and be as vulnerable as we are to the full scrutiny and judgement of the people without International media help and debate us openly and fairly and let the people judge without fear or favour.

  16. Good one Mr Beddoes that’s the way to go. Many people criticise you but they don’t have the balls to do what you are doing. Too many prefer to suck up to Papa Pig and ignore the abuse.

  17. Mick,
I agree with your sentiments and further suggest that when you lodge your official complaint on Friday – do also send a copy to Gen. Tikoitoga, CRFMF for his info.

  18. Like the beat of Mick Beddoes’s drums but I need to know before elections whether he’s paid off his NBF debt or not. If he has, where’s the proof?

  19. I think everything wrote was actually very reasonable.
However, think about this, suppose you composed a catchier title?

  21. Otherwise the surrounding skin may also end up in blisters.
And this is needed as treatments avoid warts from passing
to other parts of your own body, and also to others. The $200 million is spent on products which have varying results and does not include the cost and statistics for surgical
and dermatological procedures for wart removal. Genital warts, are warts seen on the genital areas, sometimes with itching and burning
sensation but most of the time painless but it could also lead to more serious disease and correct diagnosis must be made.
