September 17th will be a paid public holiday to allow every eligible voter to be part of the National election.
Minister for Elections Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says early indications are that the new voting system should take each Fijian about 2 minutes to cast a vote.
“On average, you have about 500 to 600 hundred people per polling station so it should be quite easy. It can practically be done in half a day.”
Polling centres will close at 6pm and those who’ve made it into the queue will be given a chance to vote.”
Voters will have to tick, cross or circle a number starting from 135 based on who they want to vote for.
Each candidate will have a random number with their picture in every polling booth.
Results are expected to start coming out within hours of close of polling.
