ON PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE ISSUE
[No 17 /2014]
[Mar 15 2014]
The UFDF is calling on the AG & Prime Minister to stop the cover-up of their salary payments and come clean on the matter of the termination of the Public Accounts Committee members. And the UFDF demands that their termination letters be published
The UFDF says according to the official statement released on Friday 14th by the Attorney General QUOTE ‘The Government has dissolved the current Public Accounts Committee as a prelude to the resumption of Parliament after the General Election’ UNQUOTE.
It is very strange indeed that the Attorney General would want to close down the committee 6 months before the elections. Why 6 months?
The UFDF has been reliably informed by one of the Public Accounts committee members; there were no plans for the ‘dissolution’ of the Public Accounts Committee.
Our source confirmed that when members arrived for work at 9am on Friday March 7th, they were shocked when they were each given a letter of termination. They were told to vacate their offices within 60 minutes.
According to our source, the contents of the letter of termination stated that QUOTE ‘Your appointment as a member of the Public Accounts Committee is being rescinded with immediate effect! UNQUOTE
There was no mention of dissolution of the committee
The UFDF has also been told that during a PAC meeting with the Ministry of Finance officials, the matter of the salaries of the Prime Minister, Attorney General and Ministers was raised. There was no satisfactory answer. However according to our source, a member of the Ministry of Finance staff confided privately to the members that QUOTE ‘like clockwork, we pay a lump sum to the accounting firm of Dr Nur Bano Ali every month and her firm pays the salaries of the PM, AG and cabinet. The Ministry have no idea of the individual salaries.
