Electoral Decree set for release

Nasik Swami Tuesday, March 04, 2014

THE Electoral Decree, which will set out regulations of the actual conduct of the 2014 General Election, is nearing completion.

Attorney-General and Minister Responsible for Elections Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said a lot of work on the decree had been completed.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed the Electoral Commission had held meetings twice with the solicitor-general’s team last week on the decree.

“Also at the moment, we are working with the consultants from Australia and New Zealand regarding the decree.”

He said the completion of the decree was delayed because of the threat of a cyclone developing last week.

“We are now three days past the due date but we’d rather get it right and we are very grateful to the Australia and New Zealand consultants — they have provided very practical solutions to some of the issues we are facing in terms of the drafting of it.”

He said the decree also detailed the rules about the conduct of the poll.

  1. So all in all no real news here. Just another useless piece of space filler by another disappointing news outlet. yay…

  2. Thank you Honorable Khaiyum. We appreciate every rule that you make for us and we will follow each of them to the point. If you say elections will be free and fair, we would never have the audacity to question this.

Can I offer you my sister too? She is a pretty young thing and you will be pleased with her. In return I would expect a little crumb from your well loaded table. Thank you again Khaiyum, you are a great man!

  3. Guys, are you going to do something about your country, or are you waiting for the Australian army ? From where I stand, you got what you deserve, but I am still puzzled that the entire population seem to embrace Khaiyum’s rule. Can anyone explain this to me?
