“On the first of October 2014 the market access regulation expires”……….Lieutenant Colonel Manasa Vaniqi is lying about sugar access.

EU takes issue with Fiji claims of extended sugar deal

Updated about 1 hour ago

The European Union says reports in the Fiji media that the country’s sugar industry will enjoy preferential market access through to 2023 are wrong.

Last week, the Fiji Times quoted the permanent secretary to the sugar industry, Lieutenant Colonel Manasa Vaniqi, as saying he has been assured Fiji sugar would continue to enjoy EU access at a rate significantly higher than the world price.

But the EU Ambassador in Suva, Andrew Jacobs, says this is either a misunderstanding or a mistake.

He says in 2017 the production quota system will end and the only way Fiji can ensure a beefed-up price from the EU is by promptly committing to an Economic Partnership Agreement.

“And what is important for Fiji is that on the first of October 2014 the market access regulation expires. So we are hoping to move forward with the negotiations of the Economic Partnership Agreement which would allow Fiji to continue to benefit from the market access it has now.”

The EU Ambassador to Suva Andrew Jacobs.

The latest round in EPA with Pacific nations is underway in Suva this week.

No, Vaniqi, speaking on behalf of the illegal Govt and especially the illegal PM was lying. He was campaigning for the PM to attract the public especially the cane farmers for upcoming election.

Let us sock it back to the Bhainimarama by NOT VOTING FOR HIM IN UPCOMING ELECTION

  2. OMG this manasa vaniqi is such a dumb ass why is he still looking after sugar and fcking the indians over with his mussie mate abdulla khan ni khanny who is only trying to get co-gen project in fiji approved for his own benefit

both of them need to be removed asap one big question is how did manasa educate his kids overseas on a civil servant salary i am sure many of those rural road project maney went into your pocket manasa

he is a thief but hids it well as a major in army and kissing and bowing to the senior army people these are the crooks that have fcked the fijian people over and over again for many years they need to be gone

  3. The sugar industry is doomed!! I laugh when I here all the garbage from Vaniqi and his buddy Abdul. On one side they talk about the rapid improvement of the sugar industry, and here they are telling us they can only survive with EU giving them prices above the world price. How stupid is this? Fiji cannot complete on a level playing field. It has to survive with preferential prices. The sugar industry is doomed!!!

  4. Sugarman, we are getting increasingly familiar to this illegal regime being capable to survive on a level playing field…it uses all unethical tricks, illegal leverage and their illegal hold on power in Fiji to to win at all costs against the interests of Fiji citizens.

    WE WILL NOT VOTE BAINIMARAMA.

  5. Vaniqi has not planted one sugarcane in his life so what he knows about the sugar industry.

Indians should leave sugarcane ( Grimit) and get into cash crop like the chinese.

Otherwise get a full time job and forgot about sugarcane farming.

It is only hard work with no return.

The chinese come to Fiji and get into cash farming and never pay tax and make money.

What a joke on Indians who work so hard and get nothing.
