Minister keen to stand if considered

February 07, 2014 09:02:11

Fiji’s Minister for Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni says she will stand in the September elections if invited by Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.

Speaking to Fiji Live, Dr Luveni said she would love to be one of the candidates in the coming elections but she would only do so if invited by Commodore Bainimarama to be part of his yet to be announced party.

“If I’m considered by Bainimarama’s party than I would gladly stand in the elections,” Dr Luveni said.

She further said she was encouraged to see Non Government Organisations taking a stand to encourage women to have a say in parliament.

“It’s very heartening to see that Women NGO’s are encouraging women to stand in the elections and creating awareness about it.

“In fact I’m happy to see that and I encourage more women to stand in the coming elections,” Dr Luveni said.

  1. She would be more useful to the country going back to her job as a doctor.
but we all know why she wants to stay in politics
the privileges, the pecks, the pajero, the power, the overseas trips
why would one want to waste her time in a third world hospital serving the poor sick when one can enjoy virtually first world privileges as a government minister?

  2. Jiko has been approved by the Honorable Khaiyum as a young and clean politician. So she is welcome to the WALK party to be launched within the next couple of weeks. We All Love Khaiyum (WALK) will be the winner in our free and fair elections and Jiko will become Minister for sewing machines and brush cutters.

  3. Dr Luveni is tainted. She has joined a military dictatorship. She is an opportunist bitch. She belongs in prison . She has sucked the balls of illegal anti-democracy assholes. Go back to being a dr. You must be a shit doctor if you want to be a politician.

  4. @ Anonymous w.ho says “Dr Luveni is tainted” I think yours is a very valid observation. In the roll call of civilian opportunist who joined the repressive military dictatorship her name must appear together with Dr Neil Sharma . There are of course many others. We will not be forgetting them when democracy is fully restored.

  5. When one becomes a doctor s/he takes an oath to First Do NO Harm (to others)
when a doctor becomes a politician s/he takes another oath to First look after themselves and their own vested interest!

  6. the reason for the illegal minister’s keenness is obvious
she wants to continue her existence as a bakewa.
