Trade unionist Attar Singh says there are no restrictions under the Political Parties decree to stop union leaders like him from attending political meetings.

Singh says he has been invited to speak during National Federation Party meetings although he is no longer an official.

He says he is free to contest the elections but once he files his nomination he will automatically lose his role in the union under the decree.

Both Singh and Pramod Rae stepped down from the NFP in favour of their union roles.

Singh says it’s the role of trades unions to lobby for workers rights which is why they attend political meetings to raise these issues.

  1. every citizen has a duty to be politically informed so that he/she can :
    1) make informed choice on who should govern him/her and their families.
    2) to participate in the democratic life of the country.
One way to become an informed citizen is to attend political meetings of different political parties.
Another way is to avoid reading the Fiji Sun!!

  2. If I were Attar I won’t be too sure . Remember its still a dictatorship and ANYTHING can happen arbitrarily in a dictatorship. they will take you in and YOU have to prove your innocence!
