Fiji’s Labour Party President says lack of election detail ‘discouraging’

Updated at  4:27 pm today

The president of Fiji’s Labour Party says it is discouraging that key details about the promised elections are still to be released to the public.

Lavinia Padarath, who is a former minister for Women and Social Welfare, has just attended a workshop in Fiji aimed at encouraging more women in the Pacific to enter politics.

But Ms Padarath says it is not clear whether Fiji’s elections will go ahead this year.

“The whole of Fiji is still in the dark. We have been promised elections by September this year. We are awaiting details but we are also hampered at the same time when Fiji has not been given the Electoral Decree to give us some detail on the direction, the way forward, in terms of the election process and that is discouraging.”

Lavinia Padarath says the party is also waiting for the supervisor of elections to be announced.

  1. when will Ms Padarath and company learn that in a dictatorship the public and political parties have no right to know what the dictator has in mind?

  2. The election will never happen as SOPDELA and FLP will form the government if an election will take place.

Enough of robbing taxpayers money by Bainimarma and Khayium for 8 years.

  3. Despite all the unfair tactics of bhaini-marama leading up to the elections, we should still be grateful that there is a God who is watching and whose Word never lies that “whatever you sow, you will surely reap.”
