All idle lands in the province are going to be used for sugarcane farming?……… How have they aquired ALL the idle land?

Ba sugar boost

The Ba Provincial Council is working to ensure that all idle lands in the province are going to be used for sugarcane farming. It is involved in planning on a joint venture that is going to boost the country’s sugar industry. Dickie Bird said involved in the talks is a major Malaysian company, which is behind the venture.

  1. are all idle lands suited to cane farming?
who are the lawful owners of the idle land?
do they have a say in the use of their land?
Oh I keep forgetting Fiji is still under dictatorial rule.
the owners need not be consulted or their consent acquired.
riding roughshod over everybody is the way of the dictatorship.
that’s the kind of thing that is responsible for Cuba being basically a destitute country.

  2. The sugar industry is doomed! Even with less than fifty percent of production from the pre 2006 coup, there is still stand-over cane. Imagine if we had cane production similar to the pre 2006 coup levels, what a mess the industry would be in with poor transportation, shortage of cane cutters, frequent mill breakdowns, longer crushing season which encroaches into the wet season, shorter slack season for mill maintenance, higher cost of production, lower level of sugar content, etc., etc., etc. There will be no ending to these problems. I repeat, the sugar industry is doomed!!
