Sewing machines not chainsaws …….Franks version of the Agricultural Scam he called corruption…….. “We have 80 machines left in our office for distribution and we will hand these out before elections”.

Shayal Devi Monday, January 27, 2014

SIMA Tawake of Burenitu, Ra, used to cook food and sell them by the roadside in the hope of earning a few extra dollars.

She and 58 others in her village will now be able to sew clothes and earn an income.

Burenitu was one of 19 villages in the interior of Ra that received sewing machines from the Minister for Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiko Luveni.

Ms Tawake, 24, said she was very grateful for the assistance.

“It will be a big help for us and all the other women in the villages,” she said.

“We are thankful to government for this assistance.”

Dr Luveni presented the 37 machines at Matawailevu Village in Ra on Friday.

Dr Luveni also visited Nailuva Village and distributed eight sewing machines.

“We have 600 sewing machines coming in from China and another 300 from India. We also have 80 machines left in our office for distribution and we will hand these out before elections.”

  1. I suppose we could also give all the men a spanner and they will become competent mechanics overnight?

And why not paint brushes to all the unemployed youth and they can become artists?

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  2. @ Carlton
didn’t you know there are no racial groupings in Fiji anymore?
everyone is now equal and are called Fijian.
everyone will get a sewing machine.
and everyone is expected to vote for the Bainimarama party
then everyone in fiji will live happily ever after

  3. The party that will win will be the one that hands out spanner kits to all the villages so that the men can become instant mechanics and paint brushes to all the unemployed youth so they can be instant artists.

  4. @anon

The others have yet to receive it but if everyone gets one each then most shops will close down.

  5. hmmm Ive heard this story before……and its the same story that provided reason to Bainimaram a & Khaiyum to condemn the last election. Are we too stupid? How about the Women from other provinces? no it has to be from Ra- isnt that too obvious (un)Honorable Minister?
