Fiji political party leader calls for fair go from media

The President of Fiji’s National Federation Party has welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement that he will step down from the military to form a political party in March.
Raman Singh says Frank Bainimarama has been promising to form a party and campaigning to that effect for some time.
He says he is looking forward to the election campaign, but is questioning whether it willl be free and fair, accusing the country’s media of being on the government’s side.
However, Mr Singh says the media does appear to be moving towards being fairer, albeit very slowly.
“At the moment it’s still on his side, especially the Fiji Sun. The print media is very much on his side. The Fiji Times is attempting, but at a very slow pace. But as we go along towards elections we’d like them to be fairer and give us a fair go.”
