Fiji political party leader calls for fair go from media

Updated 41 minutes ago

The President of Fiji’s National Federation Party has welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement that he will step down from the military to form a political party in March.

Raman Singh says Frank Bainimarama has been promising to form a party and campaigning to that effect for some time.

He says he is looking forward to the election campaign, but is questioning whether it willl be free and fair, accusing the country’s media of being on the government’s side.

However, Mr Singh says the media does appear to be moving towards being fairer, albeit very slowly.

“At the moment it’s still on his side, especially the Fiji Sun. The print media is very much on his side. The Fiji Times is attempting, but at a very slow pace. But as we go along towards elections we’d like them to be fairer and give us a fair go.”

  1. The election cannot be fair and transparent under Bainimarama. The process is a farce having his supporters in all Govt Depts who have just received more that 100% salary increases as bribe to support him, soldiers upped in salaries, free grants for schooling and other things to rural communities while he holds on to power allowing him free propaganda throughout Fiji at cost to taxpayers.

We will not vote for Bainimarama, lease everybody this is our significant opportunity to chuck out this DICTATOR, LYER FRAUDSTER, TAUGHTURER , MURDERE AND A THIEF

  2. don’t count on the mainstream media in Fiji to give you a fair go
    it won’t happen
they are too far up the arse of the Bainimarama mob
get your message DIRECTLY to the people
one message should be they need to remember the Bainimarama government was unlawful, unelected and dishonest. It was founded on a lie. It was a power grab by Bainimarama and his cronies who kept the nation and its people hostage for nearly 8 years.
No body – least of all a mediocre military commander like Bainimarama – had the right to do that.
another message should be to remind the people that the illegal Bainimarama government did not release any Auditor General’s report because they did not believe in accountability and transparency and public scrutiny. They did not want the people to know HOW they were running the country for the last 8 years.
another message is whereas Bainimarama said no military personnel will benefit from his coup military people have infiltrated the entire civil administration of the country in cushy positions .
worse still is the nepotism practiced by the Bainimarama “clean ” government. how did a convicted criminal like Kean – Bainimarama’s bro-in -law become permanent secretary?

  3. Mogy Matai is right
The elections conducted under Bainimarama’s watch cannot be free and fair.
The man is a dishonest liar
He will lie and he will cheat and he will manipulate to make sure he wins the elections
he is stupid but not that stupid
he knows winning the election and staying in power is his only guarantee against going to Naboro.
