Australia’s acting High Commissioner to Fiji, Glen Miles says Australia will continue to prioritize elections-related support to Fiji.

This is despite a decrease in budget allocation for Fiji announced last weekend.

Miles says the revised budget estimate for 2013/14 total is $54.6 million, down from the original estimate of $58.2 million.

This compares with $50.5 million total ODA in 2012-13.

Miles says they plan to consult with relevant Fiji Government officials over changes to the programme in the coming weeks.

He adds Australia remains committed to helping Fiji achieve its development priorities, and they will continue to work with the Fijian Government and Civil Society partners to identify sectors and programs for support.

As part of its election commitment, the Australian Government has reduced the 2013-14 aid budget to address the budget deficit and improve the efficiency and impact of the aid program.

  1. supposing – just supposing – the election is held with all the support the Australian government and others are providing and the Bainimarama gang lose, what will happen then?
