Television Amendment Decree includes conditions for revocation of license

Share The Television Amendment Decree which includes the conditions for the revocation of a license is now gazetted by President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

The decree came into effect last Thursday and a new section states that if a licensee is found to have breached the Media Code of Ethics and Practice under the Media Industry Development Decree, the Minister may, by notice revoke or vary the license.

However, before making any decision the Minister shall provide the licensee with such opportunity as determined by the Minister to provide a written explanation as to why the license should not be revoked or varied.

The Television Decree 1992 is also amended with the inclusion that no court, tribunal, commission or any other adjudicating body shall have the jurisdiction to accept, hear, determine or in any other way entertain any challenges by any person or body which question any decision by the Minister, the validity of the process of the issuance of any license and any condition imposed by the Minister in granting a license.

  1. Another cowardly cloaked decree to punish FijiTV for having the courage to talk to opposition. Its simple as that – no airtime for real elected leaders only them them them.

  2. So, Having Fiji TV interview Chaudhry and Qarase breaches the media code of ethics and the media development decree? And, coup supporters like Robert Khan and Thakur Ranjit Singh calls this modernising Fiji and its institutions? people like these should get thier head checked at st giles.
No amount of bulshit can convince the masses that Bainimarama is working for the good of the lot. The opposite is very clear indeed. Fools open your eyes chor muslims taking Fijians for a ride…..

  3. Seems like a sure shot to slow or stop any new investment and improvement into this industry in Fiji.

  4. fijitv should get ready to close down.
this bastard khaiyum is making fijian pay for not allowing koya form the govt.
time we fijian start sending mullah back to arab.
    fiji is doom under baini/khaiyum.

  5. another sign of the country going backwards. this media manipulating degree is empirical evidence of that. thakur ranjit and robert khan and graham davis and cros walsh can sing all the praise they want about the military regime taking the country forward but we all know what they are doing to the country: they are taking it to the dogs!

  6. what the f khaiyum think.he owns fiji mf
the elected leaders have peoples mandate .
fiji tv give more time on news to elected leaders, not this regime.

  7. Unbelievable..their stupidity that is. Is this their road to democracy? oh Sai can you talk some sense into these idiots.

  8. Taking control of all the media is just another part of Aiyaz’s plan to subjugate and eventually rule the nation – more corruption and nepotism on the horizon.

Frank is too old and dumb to see what is coming – he will be hung out to dry and Aiyaz will be left with the crown.
