THE Government House fencing project is progressing well and should be ready for commissioning in January next year says, the Office of the Prime Minister’s deputy secretary for development co-operation, Eliki Bomani.

The fencing project was enabled through direct government assistance from China worth $2.3million.

“The walls have gone up and it’s almost complete. The only thing to start in a few days is the laying of the underground cable for the lights,” he said yesterday.

“So far, the project is on schedule. With the weather permitting, it should be ready for commissioning in January.”

The fence, made of steel and reinforced concrete, is used for the foundation and columns.

Mr Bomani said earlier the fencing project involved three types. The first involved a decorative fencing which would run along the frontage from the Great Council of Chiefs complex to the entrance to the Botanical Gardens through to Cakobau Road to the British High Commissioner’s residence.

“The fencing perimeter will be about 2.4 metres in height,” he said.

The second type of fencing will serve to separate Government House from the Botanical Gardens and the third will cordon off the properties at the GCC complex and behind Government House.

Mr Bomani said 20 workers had been brought in from the China Railway Number 5 Engineering Group and were housed in government quarters at Domain.

  1. Only Chinese can build the Great Wall of Fiji which is a top priority for all. This will keep out the mongol hoards from the hills. The millions $ costing to build it is for the air fares and accommodation of the Chinese workers. The actual wall can be built by unemployed youths of Suvavou for nothing. But then they will need to learn taichi first. You just can’t win against the Chinese!

  2. The next time I talk to His Honour Vore, I will humbly request that we use a new national language i.e Fijnese. This will be similar to the Pigin English but a mixture of I Taukei and Jaina vosavosa.

  3. Fijis new language will be chinese, vore gone to cede fiji to china and fill his and his merry men pocket, fijians will be dominated by chinese soon and free and fair election with chinese having majority and free pr and visa and military base in fiji, threat to the pacific and massive corruption where vore no saint , the bloody crrokks are filling their pockest left right and center, dress like a sheep and choro like a wolf, send small fries to gail via ficock, a commisiion of enquiry is needed by new government to send vore and band to gail for big time, assestanmd cash all over the worl now for vore, time to run in cassava patch soon

  4. Seeto brought Chinese to plant dalo along Sawani to sell the dalo to other Chinese setting up restraunts all over Fiji…… which we locals can easily plant as our grand fathers had done. Now Voresona is bringing them Chinese to build fences which uneducated locals can easily do…..whats wrong with Fiji??? Common denominator ihere is the type and quality of leadership we have….they care bugger all for us locals, ….their pockets come first….corrupt bastards.

  5. Vore coup is inspired by chinese, his aim is to fill his pockets with millions and bugger fiji, send oppenents to gail like garase and chodi and so no competion come 2014? then he become legal falla, bottom line his pocket is the key, hands in dip with chore money, accounts in china which leweni opened must be tracked down

  6. Guys what’s the haw haw about? Fijians are too stupid to build a wall. They are too dumb to get a democratic government and too lazy to do something about the massive Chinese land grab that is under way. They deserve to be ruled by a moronic crank.

  7. Here we go – it is the modus operandi of the Chinese …. give with one hand and look all very charitable, and the other hand offers a tight-fisted list of conditions which ALWAYS includes the inclusion of their own people who will receive the wages/finds/materials that they are “donating” in the first place …

Free chop suey anyone ? Watch you don’t choke on your noodles boci’s.

  8. There was a land in Vitogo which the Fijians did not renew the lease. The Indian family left and a chinese family is now farming the land.

Imagine commercial vegetables being farmed right in the middle of dry Lautoka.

Only the chinese could do it. Stop complaining and learn from the Chinese. They don’t have to mix a bucket of yaqona before they start work or light a fire for kettle.

  9. @ Sa Rauta,Fijians (I Taukei-owner of the land)we did not complain,we are catching up to every business people in the country,we dont have to plant to feed you bastards. No matter what you guys have,we are still the richest people in Fiji, without our land, you are nothing. The question i want to ask you is…why is an Indian or Chinese come all the way from China or India, only to build a shop, next to a village?Because we have the money.

  10. WHY BUILT A FENCE AT THE FIRST PLACE? IS IT FOR SHORT TERM GOAL STRATEGY WITH REGARDS TO THE AMOUNT OF DEBTS WE OWE THE OTHER DONORS APART FROM THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT…! OR IS IT AN EXIT STRATEGY TO FENCE THE BOTANICAL GARDEN TO OBTAIN RETURNS…WHICH MEANS..I WOULD’NT BE SUPRISE IF CITIZENS WOULD BE PAYING FOR SITE SEEING OR RELAXING AT THE BOTANICAL GARDEN…MY QUESTION IS …..HOW WILL THE GOVERNMENT GETS THEIR SOURCES FROM, TO PAY UP THEIR DEBTS…SIT BACK ,RELAX AND WATCH THE GENIOUS PLAY THEIR GAMES….! NEX TIME U ENTER THE GARDEN , PLEASE TAKE EXTRA CASH!

  11. Forget the fence, why haven’t the waste-of-taxpayer-funds, pretentious-phuckers squatting in the white house and surrounding premises not been KICKED out yet??!!!
