The 15 members and supporters of the Fiji Labour Party who were arrested by Police two nights ago have been released.

It is alleged the 15 were having a political meeting – without a permit on Tuesday night when police arrived and arrested them.

Fiji Labour Party head likens arrest of members to police state

Posted at 19:51 on 12 July, 2012 UTC

The leader of Fiji’s Labour Party is questioning how the country can progress towards elections after members of his party were arrested.

15 people, including Fiji Labour Party members, were arrested, after allegedly holding a meeting without a permit.

The Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, says they were in a private residence, and it just a kava session with discussion.

“They were not having a meeting, they were not in a public place, and this is just like a police state. We’re supposed to be moving towards democracy and constitutional rule. We’re talking about having a new constitution, we’re talking about registering voters for an election that is scheduled for 2014.”

  1. THIS IS POLITICAL INDIMIDATION, HARRASEMENT AND THREATENING BY THE JUNTA OF THUGS.

THERE IS NO FREEDOM FOR THE PEOPLE OF FIJI AND SO WHAT IS NEW CONSITUTION RUBBISH ABOUT-WHAT DOES PROFESSOR GHEE HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS?

THE BIGGEST FEAR OF THE JUNTA AND DICTATOR IS THE PEOPLE AND PEOPLE POWER.

15 MEN ARRESSSETED AND RELAEASED IS MORE THAN THE NUMBER OF JUNTA.

THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE IS GREATER THAN GUNS AND THREATS.

BRING THE ELECTION ON AND SEE THE PEOPLE POWER IN ACTION.

    WHO ELECTED THESE THUGS.

  2. Now we have a situation where Chaudhry has just confirmed to himself that any private discussions with Aiyaz (as per those that happened in the West last week) are an exercise in futility.

You will be nailed to the wall Chaudhry because that is the illegal and treasonous regime’s game plan for both you and Qarase and the political threat that you bring to their visions of eternal rule.

  3. this labor party members should have been charged , indicted , produced in court and given a fair trial . if they break the law , then they have to pay for their crime . everyone does. they know the political situation we a in ,they know what the public order is, but they choose to ignore it , and disrespect the law , what the state government has in place for us here in Fiji, then they want to act smart, and be above the law, giving excuses . why the double standard . arrest some , then release some, come on Fiji police do not be scared of the international community or aus/NZ/us/British. just do your job , according to whatever law in front of you and do it right. apply the law and be fair.

i was at the Qarase [LQ] trial this week on Tuesday at 11 am to 1 pm session. i saw PM LQ in the eye and he also see me . as he sit in front of me , with his daughter and family , including the former Fiji Daily Post Boss, Mesake Koroi, my question is this ,if he can walk into that room like gentleman , sit on that box , and hear former CEO of FHL[Fijian Holdings Limited] Siti Weleilakeba testimony as he was giving evidence ,then so should be everyone in this country who have broken the law.

i for one ask the Fiji police , if you have have anything on me, charge me like Qarase[LQ] , i am willing to be a gentleman like him and face the judge .if the court found me guilty , then i am ,but it has to be beyond reasonable doubt , if not , then i walk. I think the only thing i can be charge with is adultery of more than 10 years ago. but bring it on[INDICTMENT] . i am ready.

same law should be applied for everyone in this country . why is this labor people released?

  4. BECAUSE FLP COMMANDS 99% OF INDO FIJIAN SUPPORT AT THE BALLOT BOX.

CALL THE ELECTION NOW AND COME AND STAND IN ANYSEAT AND TEST THE PEOPLE POWER OF FLP SUPPORT.

    BRING THE ELECTION ON.

  5. And this is the environment that will take Fiji forward to democracy and return of the rule of law? Rubbish. This repressive junta, its handful of thug facist supporters and carpet baggers like Ghai who aid and abett such thuggery are a total disgrace.

  6. @Faceless

Boy read your post again slowly and think as you go along. You spew out a lot meaningless garbage
that is worth shit. Talk sense and cut out the emotional crap or whatever it is that is bothering you.

  7. @ratu vore
it seem like , you only want SDL & FLP opinion . but do not want other people opinion . no wonder Bainimarama removed the SDL/FLP government 2006 because they never listen. i did not vote them qarase or chaudry in 2006 , i was in Nz, or either of the party has given me anything, so i do not care about them . if my fellow fijians do not like my input in this blog , then this is my last writing . i do not believe i will vote any of them in the future [SDL /FLP], looking at there track record and type of people they have in there party. i will just do not vote come 2014 . i will just keep my vote to myself. when people do not respect my opinion , i do not respect them too. I thought the blog was place to exchange ideas , and express each others feelings , seems like you guys do not want me and what i have to say. so God bless . ni sa moce . [no more writing from the faceless men] you guys are on your own.

    @Dumby
do you think i will reveal myself ? that would be stupid, do you want me to be beaten up by the military. do you think i am dumby like you.

  8. fiji is f up and police and army are khaiyum and franks slaves.
never trust this bastards and liars.
sdl and flp will rock the election .
point to be noted. vote rigging by army/police for khaiyum and frank.

  9. @Anonymous

Please continue your independent contributions in here. There are a lot of pro qarase/sdl contributors, along with the editor of this blog, who has not published many of my independent, and sometimes pro governent articles.

I do not get dis-heartened, for this is an anti-government blog.

ratu, Dumby, radio moli, kite flyer with his racism are all SDL/pro qarase supporters

so please do not worry too much about their verbal diarrohea, which filters out of their mouth.

    Enjoy and have fun @anon

  10. @ Faceless

“i was in Nz… i will just do not vote come 2014″

So very stupid. You should vote – the fact that you didn’t vote last time is irrelevant – but it does mean that you had no right to complain about others voting them in, when you refused to exercise your own right.

The other point about being in a DEMOCRACY is that you HAVE A RIGHT TO HAVE YOUR OWN OPINION – so you can love Frank fine, but be honest about it. Lying about the reasons why you love him.

Nor will the “Military Police” in Fiji come get you for saying nice things about Frank. That idea is both wrong and plain stupid.

You are ASHAMED of yourself – not “scared” of the Police.

  11. Radio Eejit.

Every body loves Frank except the 1.5% of people who for one reason or the other got booted out for their ineptness.

Are you one of those who got tossed from office?

If so than Fiji is far better off without the likes of you.

  12. Facelessman.

“I think the only thing i can be charge with is adultery of more than 10 years, but bring it on[INDICTMENT”

I find the above very difficult to believe because Radio is taking cover in Australia/NZ, how is it possible for this person to have an affair with such a distance between him and Radio.

  13. Sai – so what amazing thing have you got to point to about what Frank has done from Fiji? From economic growth? Human rights? What?

Too easy for you to write about us who had to live in Fiji.
