Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed KhaiyumReport by: Dev Sachindra

The Fiji government will be open to dialogue to its neighbours New Zealand and Australia.

Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum says there is a need to have an open mind when dealing with issues regarding Fiji and its future.

“Australia and New Zealand like McCully said is part of the Pacific Region. A lot of Fijians now live in both countries. Our boys play their rugby there. So there will always be a link between the two countries. Most of our tourists come from there. We want to be friends with everybody and the Political stance taken by both countries against that will not change this. We want to be friends with everybody based on respect and respect based on sovereignty.”

The Forum Ministerial Contact Group left yesterday.

  1. Khaiyum, maybe you and your junta thugs should have shown respect for sovereignty before you destroyed it? Fijians did NOT vote for you. You have no mandate for what you and your junta supporters hsvre done. DO NOT speak on behalf of Fijians. Now go. you are your kind who want to destroy democracy with guns are not wanted.

  2. @ Respect

    Well said. They are all for everyone respecting them, but have no respect for anyone else, or anything else.

    Hypocrites and criminals.

  3. @ Respect – right on!

    The sovereignty of Fiji is the sovereignty of her people! So ASK & Bai can only ask for the respect of the community of nations when they first:

    A. Respect the wishes of the people of Fiji who are the legal source of any notional sovereignty of Fiji, and;

    B. When they behave and operate in a respectable and honourable way themselves;

    Still waiting for both almost 6 years after their waste-time coup!

  4. The moment we start respecting an unelected oppressive regime that abuses human rights, curtails equal rights, justice and freedom of speech we have lost. The only thing Khaiyum can ask for is help. Despite all the hoopla about new friends who are respectful of Fiji’s dictatorship this country will need help from its traditional partners. Pernicious Chinese investors have no ethical values, they want Fiji’s land, timber, minerals and fish. For these new ‘friends’ a dictatorship in Fiji is as good a business opportunity as it is in Zimbabwe or in Sudan. Human rights? Ask any Chinese regime critic what our new friend has in store for those who disagree with the regime. I cannot believe the audacity and hypocrisy of Khaiyum asking to be respected by democratically elected leaders who allow their media to scrutinize their actions and allow their electorate to vote them out when they do not perform.

  5. Respect? That will be a good way to start by showing respect to the people of Fiji who you stole the government from and have been stealing from since day one! Respect? It is reciprocal, you show respect and you will get it. Did you show respect to NZ & Oz when you expelled their diplomats? No you did not, cause you showed how ill-mannered, uncouth and disrespectful you bunch of hypocrites are!

  6. Sa cega wavoki na sulu Voceke na levu ni kerekere wavoki, sa lai vakacucu sara i Idia. Dua ga nai caqe i mumu mo tau tale yani vei ratou na Al Qaeda mai Pakistan mo vutchiraki vinaka!

  7. What part of “YOU ARE NOT ELECTED” do you not understand taliban?? And tell your aunty nur to return ALL the money she has illegally filled her pockets with – you are nothing but THIEVES!!

  8. No, he is not elected, he was nominated !!

    Just like in the old days when members were nominated to legislative council !!

  9. I don’t know who in Fiji can tolerate this maichood as acting pm while kerekere with sulu high is in INDIA.

  10. Radio Doofus.

    “They are all for everyone respecting them, but have no respect for anyone else, or anything else”

    Spoken like a true doofus, how can you concoct such lies without even being on the ground to ascertain either way?

    Now boy, you’re not only flogging a dead horse with your infantile comments but you are most proficient in perverting the truth.

    “Hypocrites and criminals”

    The truth be, known there is an element of hypocrisy and criminality in some of us, but moreso in others with you leading the charge.

  11. @ Sai

    Now what have I told you about saying stupid things, Sai?

    “there is an element of hypocrisy and criminality in some of us” – if the shoes fit Sai…

    The truth of Aiyaz and Frank’s hypocrisy is apparent. A bit like calling the sky, blue or the night, dark.

    For instance, if they did have respect for our freedoms, the rule of law or the constitution, they wouldn’t be where they are today.

    Now sit down and let the adults talk.
