PM to announce constitution consultation procedures

13:59 Today

Prime Minister Commodore Bainimarama will announce the procedures for public consultations for the formulation of the new Fijian constitution next week.

Throughout January and February, the Citizens Constitutional Forum held educational meetings and received feedback from Fijians in all parts of Fiji.

The goal of these meetings was to make it clear to Fijians that everyone can and should participate in the writing of the new constitution.

Bainimarama says universal participation by Fijians is unprecedented and race, religion and ethnicity will not divide us.

He says the new constitution will affirm that there will be no discrimination, no ethnic voting and establish the democratic principle of one person, one vote, one value.

The intention was to publicly outline the process before the end of February but this was delayed due to the adverse floods in the western division.

However the Prime Minister says momentum in the drive to write Fiji’s new constitution has not slowed.

Noble sentiments indeed but the person speaking is a conniving, serial liar and a criminal of the worst kind.

So his words are basically worthless.

Good on you Mr prime Minister, you have shown the nation of Fiji what a true leader you really are.

Unlike your predecessors who by their very nature don’t have the ability to lead but most importantly they don’t have the nous on how to unite a nation.

From the people of Fiji to you Mr prime Minister, we the people are forever in your debt.

    You the Man.

As we now approach constructive, open and unbiased consultation on how a new constitution can protect the rights of our leaders and the RFMF in general a few clarifications may be required: Firstly, the current military government led by the Hon Khaiyum is the true successor of the british colonial administration. Back in the good old days, a Governor General ruled the subjects with a couple of hundred colonial officers. There was no talk of democracy, elections or free speech back then and for some good reasons. It is an absolutely ridiculous notion that the residents of Fiji have the capacity to sustain a western style democracy. Most are uneducated half wits with no other values than their own self interests. For Fijians the main interest is to work as little as possible and spend a maximum of time around the kava bowl. Indians in contrast want to cheat, steal and tell lies. The british administration acknowledged this, ruled accordingly and everybody was happy. Then we had a couple of rather dodgy ‘elected’ governments led by incompetent, greedy and corrupt politicians. Then the military saw the light and staged a couple of coups in order to boost development in Fiji. While previous military led governments never had the guts to throw away several constitutions, the current government is led by a highly qualified lawyer who understands the need for a strong hand. Consequently, the unfair and biased constitution was abrogated and now our leader will draft an innovative and fair constitution that acknowledges the paramountcy of those with real power: the military. What is so difficult to understand?

I have heard of all these gibberish about one vote one value etc etc before and it is sounding like a bad record. Come on, bring on the one vote one value system and lets get on with it. Just lets get started, thats all we want. Make sure the consultation is free and inclusive and all will be free to take part. Is that too much to ask for, FB?

In between the floods and sleeping under the coconut tree, there was no time left for consultations.

So how come “universal participation by Fijians is unprecedented” or by fijians does he mean, himself and Aiyarse…….methinks the constitution is already made, Consultation is a bullshite process to rubberstamp what the dynamic duo have alredy cooked up.
