Samoa PM says there will be no Fiji elections in 2014

Posted at 00:18 on 27 January, 2012 UTC

The Prime Minister of Samoa has vigorously attacked Fiji’s interim government, saying there no chance a general election will go ahead in Fiji in 2014.

Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has described the military regime’s promises of an election in two years time as a pipe dream.

He says the regime’s empty promises create deception and false hope among Fiji citizens and the international community.

Concerns have been raised about the militarisation of Fiji’s public service, a situation Samoa’s leader describes as unqualified army colonels occupying top-level positions.

While comparing the iron will of Samoan people to the situation in Fiji, Tuilaepa warns that Fiji could soon experience the Pacific version of the Arab Spring.

He says one cannot suppress people indefinitely because people power is mightier than guns.

Tuilaepa says if what is happening in Fiji occurred in Samoa, 100,000 people would march from the mountains, plantations and countryside into the streets of Apia – old women armed with brooms included.

  1. Prime Minister Malielegaoi is correct – these people will never voluntarily relinquish power because the ring leaders realise the consequences of doing so means all involved will collectively face some very serious charges including torture & genocide. Right now it really is that simple.

Prime Minister Malielegaoi is wrong! While we agree that Samoans would not tolerate a situation as we have it in Fiji since 2006, his prediction of a Arab Spring style uprising in Fiji is sheer nonsense. Unlike Samoans, for whom dignity, respect and freedom of speech are very important things, Fijians are different. They relish a strong leader, they accept military rule and they most certainly love the Honorable Khaiyum and his shrewd aunty Nur. As far as elections are concerned, we really do not have to waste the money to hold them. Both the Lowly poll and the Vodaphone election of the most popular person confirmed that the chief protector of the Khaiyum familiy is extremely popular in Fiji.

Well said by the PM (a real one) of Samoa. Fiji under the junta of khaiyum and his little cassava lap dog certainly has become a fractured and declining state. Wasting much needed resources on two bit spin doctors and surrounding itself with carpet baggers and conmen. One only has to look at those supporting this human rights abusing military junta to see that pig shyte attacts flith and flies. All losers and parasites.
Unless the Fijian people rise up against these intruders they deserve what is coming to them, and sadly the lack of any future for their children. Congratulations to the Samoan PM for the courage to speak out against this dumbass military puppet regime.

The Samoan PM is a laughing stock…dumbest PM in the world

  8. Incorect Stan – that title’s currently shared between Bainimarama & Gillard.

Well said PM. So let the Samoan people march in the streets to get rid of you. Such an under achiever and only known for two great achievements. Driving on the right side and moving the international date line.

  10. Least he doesn’t torture and kill his own people.

  11. If the Samoan PM was serious in his desire about helping Viti he could start by repatriating his idiot kai & pretend ratu Kubuabola & then asking the Tongans the chances of establishing a TAB Nukualofa for another one of their own long lost runaway fools?

  12. @ Stan

    Lets make this simple.

    1. Malielegaoi, PM – Elected

    2. Frank, Dictator/Interim Minister for Everything – Unelected

Very simple conclusion here. Malielegaoi is a leader because he has the mandate of his people. Frank has guns, torture and censorship.

They don’t even come close to being comparable – never mind attempting to suggest that Malielegaoi is somehow WORSE than Frank. You shouldn’t drink so much on Fridays.
